Best hotel in Queenstown!

This was a fantastic hotel. It’s perfectly situated right next to the steps to the gondola and is just a stones throw from the main thoroughfare but on a peaceful and quiet side street with no noise. The lake is just a short walk too. The service is wonderful. I can’t remember the name of the gentleman who checked us in but he was so warm and friendly with his welcome and whenever he saw us and helpful with suggestions for our day and our next travel point. The rooms were lovely. Very clean with a minimalist design that was chic but still super comfortable (esp the couch and seats in our sitting room). We stayed on the 5th floor and had a lovely patio with a jacuzzi (we never used it). Our room also came with a W/D which was very convenient. We had access to the afternoon tea (3-5pm) and cocktail hour (5-7pm) which was very nice. The food itself is just fine but it was a fun diversion during the day when we wanted a little snack and refreshment. The bar area where it is held has a nice vibe too. Breakfast is small but has all the basics and the food service is also friendly. I know there are some fabulous properties outside of Queenstown but we loved being in the center and would highly recommend the Sofitel if you decide the same!

Perfect locations for a perfect hotel

I had a perfect stay of 5 nights at this hotel. The reception desks were so helpful and wonderful and so was the concierge. One night I made a comment about being a woman eating alone and given certain tables because I was alone and wanted to know if that was a normal thing there. They were appalled that had happened. So I went to my room and a few minutes later there was a knock at my door and they brought me a ice bucket with Coke Zero because they knew I liked it along with a very nice card signed by all 3 of the. If that wasn’t enough, the next night I was brought another ice bucket with Diet Coke and also some sweet treats. They just treated me so well which meant a lot to me because I was on my own for 4 nights while my husband was hiking. The room was terrific and included the non alcoholic drinks and snacks in the minibar. The bathroom floor was heated which was a nice bonus. Our room also included a tea from 3-5pm and then a happy hour type event from 5-7 which was a very nice touch. The best thing about the hotel was its location. You could easily walk everywhere in less than minutes.

Perfect Choice

We found it difficult to choose a hotel for our 5 night stay in Queenstown and ended up opting for the Sofitel based on the location and having had good experiences at other Sofitel hotels around the world. The location was perfect, with easy walking to everything we wanted. The valet parking was extremely efficient and we never were kept waiting for our vehicle whenever we requested it. The staff at reception and concierge could not have been more helpful or friendly, going out of their way to ensure we were happy and sorting out any problems. We were booked on a flight tour to Milford Sound which was cancelled at the last minute due to weather conditions and even though the tour was booked by ourselves with an outside agency, the lady at reception called them on our behalf to rearrange alternative dates, stepping in without us even asking when she could see we were having problems contacting them. We ate out for breakfast as we did not have it included in our room rate and there are many cafes nearby for something light if you do not fancy eating a full breakfast in the hotel. The bedroom was quite large with a large bathroom - room for a walk-in shower and separate bath. It was spotlessly clean and there were lots of fluffy, white towels provided. In fact the only negative was that our room outlook was of steps on the street and so the netting had to be pulled across at all times to provide any sense of privacy as people were constantly passing our window. We would definitely recommend this hotel, we were very happy with our choice and would happily stay here again.
