Beautiful Setting, But Problematic Concept and Service

Hotel de la Coupole is undeniably stunning—the architecture is grand and intriguing, making you wonder about the history behind the building. However, you quickly realize it’s a recent project with a fabricated backstory, one that leans into a romanticized nostalgia for the French occupation (when the local population was brutally repressed) rather than anything truly connected to the region’s history. A major issue is the cultural appropriation of local ethnic minorities, with their artistic traditions used as décor to the advantage of international design but without proper acknowledgment or credit. This lack of authenticity, combined with the hotel’s website self-described “gateway to a bygone era" leaves an uncomfortable impression. Service is another weak point. While the staff is well-intentioned, they are poorly trained, and communication is often difficult, with little effort to understand guests’ needs. The notable exception is Christine, the manager, who is highly professional and effective—if only the rest of the team were trained to her standard. On the bright side, the location is fantastic, and the breakfast is good—but not worth the cost given the overall experience. It’s frustrating because, with better service and a more thoughtful approach to local culture, this could easily be a five-star hotel.

Truly a 5-star experience from start to finish! From the amazing staff to the beautiful interiors and facilities, we truly had a fantastic experience at this hotel that we had to extend our stay. We felt at home and the staff were very accommodating especially the lobby attendants and receptionists. They also decorated the room for my mom’s birthday and gave a birthday cake We will definitely come back! It felt like our home away from home. 🤍
