Need a hand deciding where to go and what to do in Liverpool in just one day? We’ve made a day’s itinerary for you to follow, with our pick of all the unmissable things to fit in on your visit.
10am: Breakfast on Bold Street
First thing’s first, you’ll need some fuel for the day ahead! Bold Street is full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, so we recommend making your way down its cobbles and choosing a delicious breakfast to start the day. Whether you’re after a classic fry up or a nutritious Buddha bowl, there’s something for everyone to tuck into here.
11am: Visit the Liverpool Tate
Once you’ve had your fill, we recommend taking a 15 minute stroll down to the beautiful Royal Albert Dock, where you’ll find a whole range of great attractions, including the famous Liverpool Tate. Home to British and international modern and contemporary art, you can catch some fantastic free exhibitions, events and unmissable displays from some of the world’s most renowned artists. When it comes to what to do in Liverpool, as one of the city’s biggest creative hubs, the visit to the Tate is a must!
1pm: Visit Liverpool ONE and Browse the Shops
Just a ten-minute walk from the Docks is Liverpool ONE, the city’s amazing open-air shopping complex. The best place to do some retail therapy on a short break, Liverpool ONE has over 170 high-street and high-end stores, bars and restaurants to explore. Once you’ve done all your shopping, stop by at one of its many great lunch spots to recharge your batteries. If it’s a sunny day on your visit, we recommend grabbing a table on The Terrace or sitting in Chavasse Park!
3pm: Visit The British Music Experience
Next up on your itinerary is The British Music Experience, which is less than a ten-minute walk towards the waterfront from Castle Street. When it comes to deciding what to do in Liverpool, no short break would be complete without learning about its rich musical history and culture! Birthplace of The Beatles, Liverpool has several music-themed exhibitions and tours, but the British Museum Experience offers a fascinating look back over the whole nation’s musical history. The exhibition offers an interactive and fun look over Britain’s musical movements and biggest stars, with genuine costumes and instruments on display from everyone from The Beatles to Bowie! You can find ticket prices here.
5pm: Take a Stroll on the Liverpool Waterfront
Liverpool Waterfront is a UNESCO heritage sight and, if you haven’t already, we highly recommend taking a stroll down the riverside and taking in the picturesque scenery of the River Mersey before dinner. You can even catch a trip on the Mersey Ferry for amazing views of the waterfront, and maybe catch a beautiful sunset over the water to top it off.
7pm onwards: Dinner and Drinks on Castle Street
Just a short walk away from the waterfront is Castle Street, an area that has become one of Liverpool’s best and busiest food quarters in recent years. From salads to sharing plates, pizza to sushi, you can take your pick of the delicious world cuisines on offer and refuel after your day exploring the city! With plenty of trendy bars in the area too, you can also enjoy a tipple or two while you soak up the atmosphere.
