In desperate need of investment

This hotel is a big old mixed bag to be honest- I am suprised it sits under the Mercure brand as it doesn't meet this standard. Pro's - The parking is free, close and plentiful. No complaints at all here. The staff are also very very good, very attentive, easy to get hold of and they did me a huge favour printing off some work documents and it really helped save my work day. The pool and gym is also a big plus, I didn't get to use these but it's great to have the option. The value is good, the hotel was really cheap. The cheapest in the area and this helped me out a lot being last minute. Cons - Everything feels quite dark, dingy and depressing. Honestly if this was my hotel I'd smash a big skylight into the lobby, it feels like the haunted mansion in places. Everything just feels very old and aged, a little lifeless and hollow. Would be easily fixed with some financial investment. I didn't eat or drink here so can't comment on this. The rooms are a mixed bag. My side of the bed had a huge dip I'm guessing from years of use but despite having good pillows the bed itself really isn't comfortable. The bathroom is aged and dated a proper shower would have been a big plus, doors are knocked to bits wood showing. You can see they have tried to modernise the room to be fair they look alright but could really do with a fridge in here. The hallways are depressing and reminded me of the shining. The big big big problem with this hotel is the noise. You hear everything. If the room opposite me coughed, went to the toilet, changed the tv, every conversation and every argument. My entire first night was listening to Sarah and her boyfriend argue that he was spending too long in the bathroom. It makes a good night sleep close to impossible when everyone here is up and out at all hours due to work. Overall I would stay here again for work if it was around £50 a night which is what I paid
