On our first night, we bought items for breakfast the next morning from a local supermarket and placed them in the fridge. In the morning we found the items warm and realised the fridge was not on. We'd not experienced this anywhere else before and went to ask at reception if this was normal. The first person we spoke to said that the fridges are always turned off and they are left open so that guests are aware. Ours was not left open, and I explained this. She then said that we still should have known, because the light wouldn't have come on when we opened the fridge. We were in a well lit hotel room, and didn't notice there was no light in the fridge. It felt odd to initially be told that there was a system in place (eg the fridge doors are left open) so guests are aware, but then to be told despite that system not being followed by the hotel, we were still responsible for not knowing, and we both felt it was being inferred that we were stupid for not realising it wasn't on. At this point another receptionist came out and asked what was going on - we explained, and initially when told that the fridge hadn't been left open the response was a shrug and saying 'we can't check all of them'. This also seemed odd as you would think it would be a standard part of the cleaning process when one guest departs to leave the fridge door open after turning it off. Again, this felt like saying to us that you do have a system in place, failed to use the system, but that we were still at fault. The original receptionist interjected once more to make a comment about how we should have known, and again made us feel as though her comment was intended to make us feel stupid. The second receptionist did then offer to reimburse us for our lost products - this outcome was appreciated, however all of the comments and blame beforehand were not. We wouldn't stay again based on this experience and won't recommend it to our friends and family across Scotland either.

We came to Edinburgh to watch a concert at Usher Hall! I adore Edinburgh (especially the old town)! The royal mile is the best place you can stay in Edinburgh as it is located right in the heart of the city and on one of the most known and historic streets. The hotel had easy access and you could easily park your car at Waverley station as it is only a short walk round to the hotel. Check in was a bit late (3pm) for us after such a long drive, we really just wanted to put our feet up and freshen up before we headed out. The staff were very helpful and friendly! Room was a decent size and all clean! Beds were comfortable and it had everything we needed. We did get back in late so we wasn’t best pleased when the fire alarm woke us up at 6am and by the time we had gone downstairs we were told there wasn’t a fire and everything was fine. It did take a while for the alarm to go off though. I would return regardless though as it was a lovely hotel
