Awesome view of the old port. I wish I had gotten the name of the afternoon concierge. She was so helpful--took me outside and physically showed me the market. I'm not a complete idiot but I'm not from here and don't understand much French. So thanks--very helpful! Anyway we sat on the terrace and watched a sunset over Marseille with cheese and wine--just like Pytheas did a few years ago. Daily fish market on the square downstairs. Fishmongers and artists and a beautiful guitar player too. Voila. Easy to walk around the old port. They were remodeling so the bar and restaurant weren't open but it was off season.

I really enjoyed my stay in the Grand Hotel Beauvau. The hotel is in an exceptionally good location being at the city end of the picturesque Vieux Port. As a platinum member of Accor I was fortunate to receive an upgrade to a very spacious Luxe room on the 3rd floor overlooking the Vieux Port. The hotel is conveniently located close to a number of good cafes and restaurants. It is just a short walk to the Vieux Port metro station and then a couple of stops to the Saint Charles train station from where it is possible to travel to e.g. Nice. There is a lot to see in the beautiful city of Marseille and I can recommend the Grand Hotel Beauvau as a place to stay.

The concierge in the afternoon was extremely helpful. I dd not get her name. I was under the impression there was a free bar at 1900 but I was charged for 2 glasses of wine. I guess I misunderstood. The room was nice. Great location. Great view.
